What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cosmetic surgery or injectables? You may recall images of celebrities with unfortunate results or exaggerated “trout pout” looks. With the increase in cases of overfilled faces portrayed in the media, first-time patients often stress the importance of achieving balanced and harmonious results—and we couldn’t agree more! This raises an important question: when does “dermal filler” become excessive?
We have three recommendations that we believe are the key to stopping you from going too far with your hyaluronic acid-based injections.
Find a practitioner that you can trust. With any procedure, you put a lot of trust in your practitioner. As a consumer, you should take the time to investigate their work and past patient’s results. Every practitioner has a unique style, aesthetic and technique, and it’s of the utmost importance that you find a practitioner who suits you and your needs and who also has the training and experience to back it up. Remember, DO YOUR RESEARCH.
Have an initial consultation. Ensure that you take the time to discuss your concerns and ideal results. It is paramount that you can contemplate and discuss any questions or concerns that you may have. Having a consultation before treatment also gives you the time to go home and consider your decision. Take it as a “cooling off” period. We find that patients who allow time between consultation and treatment are more confident in their decision.
Finding a practitioner who is honest with you, is like hitting a goldmine. Our practitioners can guide you and set you up with realistic expectations. Sometimes, you need someone who will tell you NO! Our team are here to help you achieve the best result, not be your best friend (although they might be by the time you leave!) When an injector is a “yes man,” it can lead to not just an expensive day at the clinic, but also overfilling and treatment to areas you may not even need. You must remember that adding more products is not always in the patient’s best interest and can be for the injector’s gain. Confidence that your injector will do what is best for you comes from them honestly sharing their professional opinion.
If you want to take the next step, why not book a consultation with one of our registered nurses? They will tell you not what you want to hear, but what you NEED to hear and what they can do to help you achieve it.
*Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified practitioner.
