Summer is not always good for our skin, with increased risk of sun damage and dehydration at play, we need to look after it more than ever in the warmer months. With that in mind, we thought we would take a look at some of our favorite treatments to keep our skin looking its best, especially after the silly season.
Skin Boosters
The go-to skin restoration treatment in achieving a smooth, dewy complexion using hyaluronic acid-based injections, without altering the structure of your face. Skin Boosters aid to improve overall skin texture. This moisturizing effect is perfect for plumping up the skin especially if you have been exposed to warm, dry weather or sun. A typically more invasive treatment on offer, hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin to hydrate from the inside out, as opposed to applying it purely to the surface of the skin. These injections are recognized as micro-droplets that absorb water, bringing improved firmness and smoothness to the overall quality of the skin. As well as the face, areas such as the neck, decolletage, and hands may also be treated. With minimal downtime required, however, some bruising and swelling may occur post-treatment, you will begin to experience results after one session.
Hydrafacial
The ultimate treatment to achieving an instant glow with continued results of hydrated, firm, and clear skin. Through its three-step process, the HydraFacial machine cleanses, exfoliates, and infuses the skin with effective serums. Suitable for all skin types, this is by far our most relaxing treatment to indulge in during the Summer, giving your skin that extra boost of hydration that it needs. With no downtime required, you will leave with improved texture and tone, as well as the obvious glow to your complexion. This treatment is also most popular in the lead up to an event or special occasion, so if you are looking for Valentine’s Day preparation, the HydraFacial is fantastic to give that extra boost your skin needs.
So how does the treatment actually work, using a pen-like attachment, your Skin Technician will wand against your skin to clear away any excess dirt or oil in your pores. Following on with a peel to assist in exfoliation and resurfacing. Throughout the process, the attachment will be switched to suck this debris from your pores (which you can view after your treatment, very satisfying). Finally, a moisturizing serum is applied to nourish and repair the skin.
Dermaplaning
Another less-invasive treatment recommendation is Dermaplaning, which is a great exfoliation technique to rid your face of any dry, dead skin caused by the warmer weather, revealing a dewy, hydrated complexion. As well as the ultimate exfoliation, the treatment removes the unwanted peach fuzz from your face which shows a flawless base for applying skincare and makeup.
Beginning the treatment with a double cleanse to ensure all bacteria and oils are removed from the skin prior. Another oil will be applied to the skin for the blade to glide gently over the skin with no discomfort. A chemical peel can be added to the treatment to achieve a more effective result. There is no downtime which makes for a great lunch-time appointment to squeeze in before the weekend. In order to maintain these results all year round, we recommend booking in for the Dermaplaning treatment every 3-6 weeks. Do not be alarmed, the hair will NOT grow back thicker or darker than before which is a common concern with patients!
Skincare
Without proper at-home skincare, it is difficult to maintain results from your in-clinic treatment, which is why our Dermal Therapists are always advising of suitable products to use on the skin following your appointment. The number one product recommended for all patients when looking after your skin in Summer is SPF, even if you plan on staying indoors all day, we still need to protect our skin. Our Rationale Range has a few options when deciding on an SPF product, as well as everything in between, from your daily serum’s, to overnight crème’s that can assist in a range of skin concerns. Dr Murray has also recently released a new skincare range, Skin Truth, that has a base range as well as a prescription range that can help with skin issues that you may have.
