Get Liposculpture at Absolute Cosmetic Medicine. We are the only Perth clinic to have VASER PRO. This is the latest VASER machine and has been found to be extremely successful. We have done hundreds of these procedures and regard VASER lipo as the gold standard of liposuction.
What is VASER PRO Lipo?
VASER liposculpture is a subset of liposuction. It is very similar to tumescent liposculpture and is an adjunct to this.
The tumescent fluid is injected into the fat as per usual. This numbs the fat and reduces bleeding. The medical saltwater in the tumescent also helps dislodge the fat. The VASER probe is then inserted into the fat. Usually the predominant amount of fat is removed from the middle layer and the deep and superficial are left intact. So simply more fat is removed as the deep and superficial fat is removed as well.
The ultrasound is very gentle leaving the blood supply to the skin intact. This liquefied fat is much easier to remove and the old system of ramming the suction cannulas through the fat is no longer needed. The added benefit of VASER is that the area can be smoother and the divots occasionally experienced with the old method of fat are prevented.
More difficult areas such as the chest and banana fold are also more easily treated as the ultrasound liquefies the fibrous harder to remove fat from these areas.
Dr Murray considers this one of the best pieces of medical technology he has purchased. We prefer to use this in all cases of liposuction/liposculpture.
Another benefit of the ultrasound is it has been shown in studies that skin tightening by approximately 6 per cent can occur. In the chin and jowl regions this is especially beneficial. In those with looser skin around the abdomen and inner thighs the procedure can be more effective and skin lifting surgery avoided more often.
What areas can be treated with VASER PRO Lipo?
Most areas of the body can be sculpted with VASER Lipo select 2.0. The most common areas include:
- Chin and jowls
- Jaw line, neck, male chest, female breast reduction, back and bra strap fat.
- Love handles
- Inner and outer thighs
Two Weeks Before The Procedure
Smokers must quit one week before and for one week afterwards. They must be aware of the cancellation policy as we take smoking very seriously as a high risk for any procedure.
The patient should be fit, well and healthy and avoid blood thinning medication such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicine and warfarin. At least two consultations are needed before most procedures. A full history and examination will be conducted. The patient will be started on antibiotics and extensive instructions will be given. Smoking and illicit drug use must be strictly avoided for two weeks before the procedure.
Day of Procedure
If the patient has been smoking in the last two weeks the procedure will be cancelled and not refunded.
The patient must ensure they are on time for their procedure. The nurse will go through an extensive checklist to ensure the patient has been well prepared. All paper work must be filled out and brought to the procedure.
Blood tests and medications must have all been organised prior to the procedure. Photographs of the areas to be treated will be taken and the patient placed into a surgical gown.
The patient should have fasted for eight hours and showered in an antiseptic solution. The patient will be taken into a theatre and connected to a heart and oxygen monitor. If the patient is concerned regarding discomfort from drip insertion they should request emla numbing cream to the back of the hand from the nurse upon arrival. A small drip is inserted into the back of the hand and sedation drugs are given.
The patient should be completely asleep and not remember the whole procedure and many hours after the procedure. Most procedures take approximately two hours plus two-three hours to wake up and be fully recovered. A responsible adult must drop off and pick the patient up and look after them the first night. The patient will usually wake up numb and in no pain whatsoever.
After My Procedure
The following day the patient is driven to their review appointment with the nurses and the doctor. The compression garment that has been applied will be taken off and all the wounds will be treated.
During the night it is wise for the patient to lie on an old towel as the wounds will seep with raspberry cordial like fluid.
If the consistency becomes that of tomato sauce, red and thick, the doctor should be immediately called. Our doctors are on call 24 hours a day and will phone the patients during the first night.
The nurses will give the patient a bed bath for the first day and showering can occur on the second day. Wounds are usually closed during this first day. The patient should be up and walking around the house as often as possible, but generally no exercise and rest should occur for the first four to seven days.
We recommend light exercise at one week, moderate at two weeks, full at three weeks and extreme exercise to be avoided for six-twelve weeks.
Intercourse should be avoided for the first week. Swimming and sitting in spas should be avoided until the wounds are completely healed or after two weeks.
A distinct improvement will be seen during the first week but swelling may set in for up to six weeks. The end result is on average seen at three months but sometimes as early as one month. For some patients the end result can take up to twelve months.
Hard lumps felt but not seen from two weeks may persist up to six months and these are a good sign as they shrink back and pull the skin tighter. Some patients may need skin lifting surgery, although this is very uncommon.
Discomfort on day one is usually approx. two out of 10 being described by many patients as similar to what is felt after a heavy workout. The patient reports they are stiffer for two or three days than sore. The incisions may take four to six weeks to fade and in those with more olive skin slight sun tan pigmentation may set in to these scars.
Rarely IPL or lasers are used to treat these areas. The scars are very small and hidden in skin lesions or folds of the skin.
The results can be amazing and range from 50%-99% improvement. An average improvement is 80 percent, but with VASER this can be higher. The patient must be realistic as results are variable.
