What is a Neck Lift

The neck region is frequently overlooked when considering preventative aging, often only receiving attention when the signs of aging have already become apparent. Many of our patients have shared their regrets about not giving their neck more care during their younger years. The Neck Lift procedure is often incorporated into a Mini Face Lift or Ultra Mini Face Lift to address lower face rejuvenation concerns. Additionally, this can involve submental plication, also referred to as submental plasty, a technique that tightens the neck muscles.

Therefore, before moving forward, we strongly recommend that you allocate time for thorough research, self-education, and consider seeking a second opinion from a qualified practitioner to make an informed decision.

Neck Lift surgery important information

In accordance with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) protocol, it is a prerequisite to obtain a GP referral for all cosmetic surgical procedures before scheduling a consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray. Additionally, a Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) questionnaire will need to be completed to assess your suitability for the procedure. To facilitate informed discussions and address any questions you may have, informational videos will be sent to your designated email prior to your meeting with Dr. Murray. Following a second consultation with a member of our clinical team, a mandatory 7-day cooling off period will commence. During this time, we strongly encourage you to seek further information and education regarding your desired procedure, as well as consider obtaining a second opinion. After the 7-day cooling off period, you are welcome to proceed with scheduling your procedure and embark on your Absolute Cosmetic journey.

It is imperative to strictly avoid smoking, vaping, and illicit drug use before, during, and after the procedure. Nicotine consumption during the surgical process heightens the risk of complications, infection, delayed healing, or an unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome. Please note that we maintain a stringent cancellation policy for those who continue to smoke or vape. We advise all patients to cease smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure and to abstain for 6 weeks following the procedure. Reducing nicotine intake does not diminish the risk of complications; the most substantial health benefit is derived from quitting smoking altogether. We highly recommend and encourage the use of nicotine cessation aids during this period. For more comprehensive information regarding potential complications and guidance on quitting smoking, please refer to this resource.

It is vital to note that if you have smoked within the last 2 weeks, the procedure will be canceled, and payment will not be refunded.

To ensure your readiness for the procedure, being in good health is essential. It’s crucial to avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, green tea, and turmeric leading up to the procedure. Additionally, a blood test should be conducted at least 1 week before the scheduled procedure. A nurse will go through an extensive checklist to ensure that you are well prepared, via a pre-operative call before your procedure day.

On the day of the procedure, fasting is mandatory, meaning you should refrain from consuming food or water for 6 hours prior to your scheduled surgical start time. However, you may take a small sip of water in the morning to consume any pre-surgery medication if necessary. These precautions are taken to optimize your safety and the success of the procedure. All paperwork must be completed before the procedure and will be sighted and signed by your admitting surgical nurse.

What does a Neck Lift in Perth cost?

The cost of a Neck Lift procedure in Perth can vary based on the specific procedures being performed, often as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan. An Ultra Mini Face Lift is priced from $6,600, while a Mini Lift starts at $9,900. If Sub-mental Plication is included in these procedures, there is an additional cost of $4,400. Many patients opt to include Vaser Pro Liposuction and J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening to address age-related sagging fat pads. Vaser Pro Liposuction begins at $3,300 per area, and J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening starts at $3,300 per area.

For an accurate and personalized cost estimate, it is essential to schedule a consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray. During this consultation, he will evaluate your specific concerns and recommend the most appropriate combination of procedures to achieve your desired results.

*These costs exclude theatre fee, post-surgical garments, post operative medications. An all-inclusive fee will be discussed at time of consultation with Dr Murray.

Suitable candidates for a Neck Lift

Numerous factors are taken into account when determining the most suitable surgical treatment plan for you. If you are concerned about the appearance of your neck, including issues such as loose skin and crepey lines, and are in good health, you might be an ideal candidate for our Neck Lift procedure. However, a thorough assessment of your suitability, along with an in-depth discussion of potential risks and complications, will be carried out during your consultation with Dr. Murray.

When combining a Neck Lift with a Mini Face Lift, minor incisions are made near the ears, allowing Dr. Murray to tighten the SMAS muscle and remove excess skin. Addressing the platysma muscle involves a small incision beneath the chin, where sutures are employed to correct muscle separation and enhance firmness.

There are also complementary procedures available to enhance the results of the Neck Lift. For instance, J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening employs plasma energy to induce skin contraction. Additionally, Vaser Pro Liposculpture can effectively remove excess fat from the submental area.

Furthermore, if you are contemplating weight loss, it may be advisable to wait until you have reached your target weight. This precaution is crucial because losing weight after the procedure could result in excess skin, necessitating additional lifting or skin removal surgery. Proceeding with the surgery beforehand could potentially lead to unnecessary expenses and surgical procedures.

Neck Lift risks and recovery

Neck lift surgery, while offering transformative results in rejuvenating the neck area, does come with inherent risks. One of the primary concerns is the possibility of infection, although rare, which can occur post-operatively despite stringent sterilization protocols and antibiotic prescriptions. Additionally, bleeding during or after surgery is a potential risk. You will be given a 24/7 after hours number to ensure that you are provided with support you need to ensure your recovery.

Hematoma formation, characterized by the accumulation of blood beneath the skin, poses another complication, albeit infrequent. Its presence can lead to discomfort, swelling, and, in severe instances, may necessitate surgical intervention for drainage. Nerve injury is a concern due to the delicate nature of neck nerves, which, if damaged during surgery, may result in temporary or permanent numbness, tingling, or weakness in the neck region.

Scarring is an inevitable consequence of surgical intervention, with incisions being made in inconspicuous locations to minimize visibility. However, individual healing responses and meticulous wound care also influence the final appearance of scars. Skin irregularities, such as puckering or asymmetry, can occasionally manifest post-operatively, requiring attention and potential corrective measures in which we will discuss with you further if this is to arise.

Despite the surgical expertise employed, there remains the possibility of unsatisfactory results, with factors such as skin elasticity, anatomical variations, and surgical techniques contributing to the outcome. Therefore, thorough pre-operative discussions, realistic expectations, and adherence to post-operative instructions are paramount to achieving optimal results and minimizing risks associated with neck lift surgery.

For the initial two weeks following the procedure, patients should anticipate limitations in lower face and neck movement. Activities such as laughing, singing, or making facial expressions may be uncomfortable during this period. It is crucial to avoid any form of massage or pressure on the treated area for a minimum of one month.

Returning to work is typically advisable after a recovery period of 7-10 days, although this may vary depending on individual healing progress. However, if Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing has been included in the procedure, it is recommended to take a minimum of two weeks off to ensure adequate recovery and optimal results.

Patients should be prepared for swelling and bruising persisting for up to one month following the procedure.

While immediate results may be noticeable, the full benefits of the treatment typically continue to improve over a span of 3-6 months. This enhancement is primarily attributed to the synthesis of collagen, as well as the lifting and bunching effect, which collectively contribute to the gradual refinement of the desired outcome.
