What happens before the Neck Lift procedure?
Smoking and illicit drug use must be strictly avoided before the procedure. We take smoking very seriously as a high risk for any procedure, so you must be aware of the cancellation policy if you smoke. Smoking increases the risk of some serious complications during and after surgery. Ideally, you should stop smoking at least 8-weeks prior to a procedure, cutting down does not reduce the risk of complications, however, the greatest health benefit is gained by quitting smoking for good. More information about the possible complications, as well as information about how to quit, is available here.
You should be fit and healthy, and avoid blood thinning medication such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicine. You must fast on the day of the procedure. You are able to eat dinner as usual the night before, then you must stop drinking fluids at midnight. On the morning of the procedure you can take a small sip of water to take your pre-surgery medication.
At least 2 consultations are needed before most procedures. A full history and examination will be conducted. You will be started on antibiotics and extensive instructions will be given.
What happens after the Neck Lift procedure?
Patients will find their lower face and neck movement limited for the first 2-weeks. It may be uncomfortable to laugh, sing or grimace. Avoid massage or facial pressure to the area for 1-month. It is recommended to wait at least 7-10 days before returning to work. If you have added Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing to the procedure, it is recommended to take at least 2 weeks off.
Swelling and bruising may be present for up to 1-month after the procedure.
There are often immediate results, however, these continue to improve over a 3-6 month period. This improvement is due to the collagen synthesis and lifting and bunching effect.
