What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is well known as being a natural therapy, using your own blood to derive growth and platelet factors to stimulate collagen growth in the skin. Simply put, these factors are like fertiliser for the skin, and it has been reported to rejuvenate the skin to some degree. We feel its main role is as an adjunct or helper for other treatments.

PRP was originally discovered in sports medicine for improving tendon injuries. It was noticed that the area around the skin would look enhanced as well. It was suggested that the growth factors stimulated stem cells, which in turn differentiated in to new collagen and skin cells.

How successful is the treatment & how many treatments are required?

The results following treatment depend greatly on each patient, however generally there is an increase in skin thickness, tone, elasticity, and an improvement in general appearance. Fine lines and wrinkles may also improve.

We believe three to four treatments are needed on average to see a significant improvement. These should be done once a month.

Does the treatment hurt?

At Absolute Cosmetic, we are dedicated to providing patient-focused care with minimal discomfort so most of our patients will have their procedure carried out under local anesthetic.
