What are Wrinkle Relaxers?

Wrinkle Relaxer is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic medical treatments worldwide.

As we age we notice the formation and deepening of fine lines and wrinkles. Wrinkle Relaxer is a purified protein that causes temporary paralysis of the muscle it is injected into, this reduces dynamic expression lines.

The effect can last between 3 and 4 months and are not permanent. With regular treatments, you can increase the duration of the effect.

How do Wrinkle Relaxer Injections Work?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily blocking the transmitting messages between nerve and muscle cells. This means that the movement of the muscle is restricted or paralysed (depending on the muscle and the wants of the client). This gives the overlying skin the chance to rest and reduce the appearance of expression lines.

If you have static lines (lines that are still present when the muscle is not moving) you may find that they reduce in appearance over time with multiple treatments. Alternatively, for very deep lines you may need to combine your treatment with dermal fillers.  For full rejuvenation, we recommend combining anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler with skin treatments such as laser rejuvenation.

Where can Wrinkle Relaxers Treat?

Anti-Wrinkle Injections can be used to treat wrinkles in the following treatment areas:

  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Lines
  • Crow’s Feet (side of eyes)
  • Bunny Lines (upper nose)
  • Eyebrow Lift
  • Platysmal or Neck Bands
  • Gummy Smile
  • Chin Dimpling
  • Masseter Muscles (jawline slimming)

and more…

Please note that some of these areas may be Master Injector or Dr only injection sites.  Please advise on the area that you’re looking to treat when booking.

What Age Should I Consider Wrinkle Relaxer Treatments?

This is individual to you, your skin and your concerns. Some patients use anti-wrinkle injections to prevent and delay static lines from forming. As we age, we firm lines and creases when making facial expressions, with repeated use of facial muscles and loss of collagen and elastin in the skin, these expression lines become static lines. Be reducing expression lines, it takes longer for static lines to form.

Others start wrinkle relaxer injections once the static lines have formed and are looking for facial rejuvenation.

What Else Can Wrinkle Relaxers Treat?

Wrinkle Relaxer Injections may treat a variety of other medical conditions including:

  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Chronic Migraines

and more… If you would like more information on alternative uses for anti-wrinkle injections please contact us.

Please note: some alternative uses of wrinkle relaxer are still in trial phases and individual results may vary.  Please contact us for more information or book a consultation with one of our Doctors.

What is the Cost of Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment in Perth?

There are 3 brands of wrinkle relaxer approved for use in Australia. Due to Australian regulations, we are not allowed to mention the name of the products on our website, however, they are commonly referred to as Wrinkle Relaxer Type B, Wrinkle Relaxer Type D and Wrinkle Relaxer Type X.

At Absolute Cosmetic we offer all 3 products to ensure that we are able to offer our patients the product that suits them best. We also price Wrinkle Relaxer Injections per area as we find it is the most transparent way to price. Wrinkle Relaxer Injections start from $99 per area (small area or when having 3 areas of Wrinkle Relaxer Type X). For more information please get in contact via phone (1300 NEW YOU) or via the contact form below.

We offer packages which include Wrinkle Relaxer and Dermal Filler.  It is recommended that you attend a consultation to assess which package is best for you and your skin concerns.

What Happens On The Day Of Your Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment?

It starts with a full consultation that covers all the risks and benefits of the treatment. Absolute Cosmetic offers no obligations, free consultations with our highly trained and experienced team of nurses. Ice will be applied to the area after the skin has been cleaned, and a very fine needle is inserted with the product. Treatment takes approximately 15 minutes and recovery is almost immediate.

The product works by blocking the nerve that feeds the facial muscle. This is not a permanent block and can last 3-4 months. If a complication, such eyebrow droopiness occurs, usually this will resolve quickly within 2-4 weeks.

The nerve that is blocked can no longer transmit impulses to the muscle, so the muscle doesn’t contract. This does not rid you of facial expression, but it reduces overexpression, which can lead to deep creases and furrows in the skin. Reducing this movement prevents aging and treats existing lines.

The effect usually improves the more the product is used, but sometimes dermal filler is also required.

What Happens After The Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment?

You will be given instructions for post-procedure care as well as an aftercare handout, that must be followed carefully. Don’t lay flat for 4 hours following the procedure.

The wrinkle relaxing effect slowly shows after 5-10 days. One to two percent of people need a top-up treatment after 14 days. Some patients do need a higher dose, especially men.

There is no recovery time for this treatment. However, you may experience bruising or swelling for a few days afterwards. This is a side effect of a needle breaking the skin, all needles can cause bruising.

Note: If you don’t like the treatment, you’re not locked into future treatments as the effect will wear off. However, 3 months of reducing expression lines can be beneficial for life.

One advantage of wrinkle relaxers is the wrinkle prevention aspect. The longer wrinkle relaxers are used, usually, the more wrinkle prevention occurs. The added advantage is that most complications are completely reversible.

Wrinkle Treatments: Be Warned

There are three main wrinkle relaxers approved for use in Australia. Units are calculated differently across all products, this leads to some deals looking cheaper, but you’re getting no discount at all. Some clinics also use products that have been watered down.

Always ensure to have your procedure performed at a licensed clinic, with experienced injectors using full- strength approved products.

All patients must be seen by a doctor before their wrinkle treatment. This is a legal requirement. If you have received treatment without seeing a doctor at another centre, please report this to the regulatory body by calling 1800 020 653, or visit https://www.ahpra.gov.au/.

It is also illegal to import wrinkle relaxer and dermal filler into Australia. These products are prescription only medication and should not be treated as beauty products.
