What is acne?
Acne is often seen as a teenage issue, but many people experience adult acne.
Acne occurs when pores are clogged by dead skin cells or oil. It is characterised by blemishes, blackheads, and whiteheads and it can cause scarring. Acne not only affects the face; it can be anywhere on your body where there’s high oil production, including the neck and upper back and chest.
Acne can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal changes during puberty and pregnancy, or an overgrowth of Propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria that is normally present on the skin. The link between diet and acne is unclear, however many people notice a reduction in acne when adopting a healthier lifestyle.
Not all treatment plans for acne are the same as some treatments may be beneficial for one type of acne may not for another. It is important to come for a complimentary consultation so that we can assess your skin and advise the best treatment plan for you.
