Dissolving Filler: What You Need To Know

05 May 2022

As the cosmetic industry has grown, there have been surges in innovation and development. These industry growth spurts have made surgery and other cosmetic procedures safer, more effective, and accessible. With growth comes more saturation in the market. Preceded by the congestion of opinions and advice comes confusion. A trend we are noticing a lot of confusion around is the dissolving of product. So, here we are to answer your questions: Why don’t you do it, when should you do it, why is it so big on Instagram, and why do I feel so pressured to do it?

Firstly, I want to touch on clinics that recommend dissolving product three to five days after treatment. Sometimes after having hyaluronic acid-based injections, you can feel shocked. You leave your appointment and, twenty-four hours later, your lips are more sizeable than expected. You don’t like how they look, and you feel uncomfortable. Of course, this can be a stressful experience, but as the old saying goes: “patience is a virtue.”

At this point, the last thing you should do is have your treatment dissolved. You can experience swelling for up to two weeks, so what you see isn’t an accurate representation of the result. Once the swelling subsides, you may love your results. While you are still experiencing swelling, the suggestion to dissolve the product is exceptionally irresponsible. These dissolvers are not risk-free, and patients can have severe reactions, including anaphylaxis. If performed in a clinic that does not have resuscitation equipment, adrenaline and experienced doctors and nurses, you are at risk.

Another point to consider is that these dissolvers break down hyaluronic acid. While technology has advanced, this product is not so cutting-edge to be able to differentiate from a naturally produced or manufactured hyaluronic acid. Your natural tissue can be affected, resulting in a hollow appearance.

Ideally, you want to avoid the necessity for corrective procedures. Relying on the option for correction should not overshadow the importance of thoroughly researching your treatment provider. As a patient, it’s crucial to have confidence in your injector. Prioritize advice backed by experience, years of practice, and a solid reputation in the industry over merely an attractive Instagram presence.
