What happens before the Thermage procedure?

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk, and our staff will discuss those with you during your consultation. Side effects are generally mild and may include redness, swelling, blisters, bumps and rare instances of surface irregularities.

During the Thermage RF skin tightening procedure

A handpiece with a smooth, flat tip delivers radio frequency (RF) technology, which heats up the deep, collagen-rich layers of your skin. The heat helps stimulate the formation of new collagen and elastin over time, and this can reduce sagging and improve the smoothness and texture of your skin’s surface.

Each time the treatment device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling sensation. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for smoothing wrinkles; the cooling sensation protects the surface of your skin.

Throughout the procedure, your physician will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results.

We offer Thermage CPT®, which stands for Comfort Pulse Technology. These treatments incorporate vibration, which has been shown to significantly improve patient comfort.

There is little to no downtime following the procedure, and you can continue with regular activity straight away. Always limit your sun exposure for 30 days before and after your skin tightening treatment.

Thermage treatment times average about 120 minutes.
