What are Fat Dissolving Injections?

We are born with a certain number of fat cells, which stays the same throughout our adult life. When we ‘put on weight’, the fat cells swell rather than the body creating more. If you reduce the number of fat cells from a specific area in your body, that area will not store as much fat.

Fat Dissolving Injections are made of a compound that is naturally occurring in the body. This compound aids in the digestion of fat stored in the food that we eat. When isolated and injected into the targeted area, this compound helps the body to metabolise and break down excess fat cells.

How do Fat Dissolving Injections work?

Research is not fully conclusive about how this treatment works, but there may be a number of reasons. Firstly, it appears that the cell membrane of the fat cell is damaged, so the fat leaks out into the lymphatic system where it is expelled from the body. Another explanation is that fat cells become inflamed and are destroyed by the body’s own immune system. A third explanation is that the fat cell is directly destroyed.

Fat Dissolving Injections treatable areas

Fat Dissolving Injections were designed for use in the fat under the chin. They have been proven to reduce a double chin with results that last at least 4 years. Although they were designed for use in the chin area, they can be used in other fat pockets in the body. If you wish to have Fat Dissolving Injections in other areas please book in for a consultation to see if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.

Fat Dissolving Injections costs

Fat Dissolving Injections are from $599 per vial.

The total cost of the fat-dissolving treatment depends on the size of the area being treated. When treating beneath your chin there is usually a minimum of 2 vials per treatment and 2 treatments are required (a total of 4 vials).

How many treatments do you need?

The number of treatments required will differ, depending on the results you are seeking. Visible results can be seen in 2-4 treatments, but some patients may need up to 6 treatments. Results should be noticeable a few weeks after your second treatment.

What happens before Fat Dissolving Injections?

Prior to treatment, we do a full consultation to ensure that this is the best option for you, and achieve the results that you’re hoping for. We offer a range of treatments to reduce fat, including CoolSculpting and Liposuction. At the consultation, we will measure the area to advise of the cost and go through what the treatment involves.

To be suitable for this treatment you must be fit and well, with no liver problems as this is the main area where the chemicals are processed. Blood-thinning medications such as anti-inflammatories and aspirin should be avoided prior to treatment. Avoid alcohol the night before. Smokers should reduce their consumption, or try to quit.

As with all Schedule 4 Cosmetic Injectables, you must see a doctor first – this is a specific advantage of engaging our clinic for any treatment.

Fat Dissolving Injections procedure

The Procedure

The area to be treated must be clean and dry. The procedure takes approximately 15-30 minutes. It’s done with a series of injections to place the therapeutic product into the correct area. Numbing cream or laughing gas can be used to minimise discomfort, although most patients find ice the best form of relieving any discomfort.

Fat Dissolving Injections aftercare and recovery

We recommend you bring an ice pack to ice the area and keep it clean and dry. It is a common side effect that the area may experience swelling, bruising and redness. If this is excessive and feels very hot, or if you have a fever, please contact the clinic. We have never seen an infection from this procedure, but it is possible, as in all procedures.

Recovery is extremely quick for this treatment, allowing you to return to work almost immediately. Results are variable and not immediate, so you must be patient.
