How long do Dermal Fillers last?

The longevity of dermal fillers can differ from patient to patient. As a guide, dermal fillers last anywhere between 3 and 24 months depending on the filler used and the area injected.

Are Dermal Fillers safe?

As with any invasive cosmetic procedure, there are risks associated with dermal fillers. Some of the serious risks include filler blindness, allergic reactions, occluded blood vessels and necrosis of the skin. The risks outlined above are why it is important to go to an experienced injector for your dermal filler treatment.

Some common side effects of dermal filler include; swelling, bruising and localised discomfort.

What happens before the Dermal Filler procedure?

You should be in good health, at the consultation, we will take an entire medical history. Blood-thinning medications and anti-inflammatory products should be avoided for 1-week before Dermal Fillers. Smokers should quit at least 2-weeks beforehand.

The area should be clean and dry. It is advisable to read the consent and aftercare forms below to ensure that you are well-informed before your consultation.

It is also essential to have an experienced injector performing your procedure. We have seen many poor results and complications due to inexperience in this area. Government-approved injectable products and fully-trained injectors are essential.

What happens on the day of the Dermal Filler procedure?

Numbing cream can be requested for a small additional cost or can be purchased from the pharmacy and applied half an hour beforehand. If required, gas or sedation can be organised. This needs to be booked prior to your treatment date, fees will apply.

Most areas can be treated in 30-60 minutes. Before treatment, you will be required to have a consultation with the treating doctor. This consultation will incur a fee of $100 which is payable at the time of booking.

What happens after the Dermal FIller procedure?

We recommend you ice the area for 30-minutes after the procedure, and 30-minutes before going to bed, plus again in the morning, ensuring a sterile covering is used.

Results are immediate and usually last between 12 months and 2 years, depending on the filler used and the individual. There is minimal downtime and may be swelling and bruising for up to 1-week. The patient must abstain from heavy lifting for 1 week and sex for 2 weeks.

An aftercare sheet is given to all patients, and you should closely follow this. Less than 2% of people need a top-up or slight readjustment. We have an urgent after-hours contact number if you have any critical concerns post-treatment.
