In accordance with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) protocol, it is a prerequisite to obtain a GP referral for all cosmetic surgical procedures before scheduling a consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray. Additionally, a Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) questionnaire will need to be completed to assess your suitability for the procedure. To facilitate informed discussions and address any questions you may have, informational videos will be sent to your designated email prior to your meeting with Dr. Murray. Following a second consultation with a member of our clinical team, a mandatory 7-day cooling off period will commence. During this time, we strongly encourage you to seek further information and education regarding your desired procedure, as well as consider obtaining a second opinion. After the 7-day cooling off period, you are welcome to proceed with scheduling your procedure and embark on your Absolute Cosmetic journey.
It is imperative to strictly avoid smoking, vaping, and illicit drug use before, during, and after the procedure. Nicotine consumption during the surgical process heightens the risk of complications, infection, delayed healing, or an unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome. Please note that we maintain a stringent cancellation policy for those who continue to smoke or vape. We advise all patients to cease smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure and to abstain for 6 weeks following the procedure. Reducing nicotine intake does not diminish the risk of complications; the most substantial health benefit is derived from quitting smoking altogether. We highly recommend and encourage the use of nicotine cessation aids during this period. It is vital to note that if you have smoked within the last 2 weeks, the procedure will be canceled, and payment will not be refunded.
To ensure your readiness for the procedure, being in good health is essential. It’s crucial to avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, green tea, and turmeric leading up to the procedure. Additionally, a blood test should be conducted at least 1 week before the scheduled procedure. A nurse will go through an extensive checklist to ensure that you are well prepared, via a pre-operative call before your procedure day.
On the day of the procedure, fasting is mandatory, meaning you should refrain from consuming food or water for 6 hours prior to your scheduled surgical start time. However, you may take a small sip of water in the morning to consume any pre-surgery medication if necessary. These precautions are taken to optimize your safety and the success of the procedure. All paperwork must be completed before the procedure and will be sighted and signed by your admitting surgical nurse.

Procedure Preparation
This is generally a day procedure, allowing you to return home with the assistance of a designated caregiver shortly after the procedure. Punctuality for your appointment is essential, and the exact arrival time will be discussed with you during your pre-operative phone call with the nurse before your surgical day. The nursing staff will conduct a thorough admission process before admitting you to our fully licensed day surgical clinic.
If you are currently taking any regular medications, please make sure to inform your nurse during your pre-operative call. In many cases, most medications can be continued, except for blood-thinning medications. However, it is advisable to consult with your nurse or Dr. Murray before the procedure to receive specific guidance on how to manage your medications effectively during the VASER Pro Liposuction process. Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance, and our medical team will ensure you receive appropriate instructions regarding your medications.
Following the procedure, you will rest in our recovery bed until your caregiver arrives to pick you up. The caregiver will receive instructions from your discharging nurse on how to care for you in the next 24 hours. They will also be provided with Dr. Murray’s personal mobile number for any overnight concerns. The following morning, you will return to our Nedlands clinic for a post-operative review conducted by one of our friendly nurses. During this appointment, you will receive post-operative care instructions and guidance on your recovery journey. The Procedure
The VASER Pro Liposuction procedure is conducted under neurolept sedation, ensuring that you are completely asleep during the surgery and should not have any recollection of the procedure or the immediate hours afterward. Typically, the procedure itself takes approximately 2 hours, with an additional 2-3 hours for you to wake up and fully recover. However, it’s important to note that the duration can vary from patient to patient, depending on individual factors and the number of areas being treated.
Your caregiver will be contacted with an estimated time to arrive at the clinic for your pickup. They will receive a comprehensive handover and discharge plan to ensure your care during the first night following the procedure. They will also be provided with Dr. Murray’s personal contact number in case of any concerns overnight.
Upon waking up, you may experience numbness, which is normal. If you happen to feel any pain, it’s essential to inform your nurse immediately. The following day, you will return to our Nedlands clinic for your day 1 post-operative review and further instructions regarding your aftercare.
Vaser Pro Liposuction aftercare, recovery and risks
On the day following your VASER Pro Liposuction procedure, you will need to arrange transportation to your review appointment with the nurses and the doctor. During this appointment, the compression garment that has been applied will be removed, and all wounds will be treated and inspected.
It’s advisable to prepare for some post-operative drainage during the night, and it’s a good idea to lie on an old towel to absorb any fluid leakage. The drainage is often described as having a consistency similar to raspberry cordial.
In the event that the drainage becomes thicker and resembles tomato sauce (red and thick), it’s essential to contact the doctor immediately. Our doctors are available 24 hours a day and will be ready to assist you, even during the first night.
After your day one review, the nurse will provide instructions regarding whether you may shower or not. This decision will be based on the amount of fluid leakage you continue to experience at the time of the review. While it’s encouraged to be up and moving around the house as often as possible, strenuous exercise should be avoided during the initial 4 to 7 days (though this timeframe may vary from patient to patient). Rest is crucial for a smooth and successful recovery.
Following your VASER Pro Liposuction procedure, it’s important to avoid intercourse for the first week. Additionally, it’s advisable to refrain from swimming and sitting in spas until the wounds have completely healed, which typically occurs after 2 weeks.
You will notice a distinct improvement during the first month, but it’s important to note that swelling may set in and persist for up to 6 weeks. The final results are usually seen, on average, between six to nine months, but it may take up to 12 months for some patients.
Recovery time is relatively quick, with most patients being able to resume normal activities within 1 week after the procedure. Light exercise can typically be resumed at 1 week, moderate exercise at 2 weeks, and full exercise at 3 weeks. However, extreme exercise should be avoided for 6-12 weeks to ensure a smooth and safe recovery.

Manual lymphatic massage
Performing manual lymphatic massage (MLM) on yourself can be beneficial for promoting lymphatic flow and reducing swelling after certain surgeries or medical conditions. Here are some general guidelines for a DIY MLM session:
- Wait 6 Weeks After Surgery: It’s important to wait until your surgical incisions have healed and your body has had some time to recover before attempting manual lymphatic massage.
- Prepare the Space: Find a comfortable and quiet space where you can lie down or sit in a relaxed position. Use a firm surface, such as a mat or massage table, and ensure the room temperature is comfortable.
- Begin with Deep Breathing: Take a few deep breaths to relax your body and mind before starting the massage. This helps promote a sense of calm and aids in lymphatic circulation.
- Gentle Warm-up: Before directly targeting the lymphatic areas, gently warm up your body by lightly massaging your neck, shoulders, and chest using broad circular motions. This helps prepare the lymphatic vessels for better flow.
- Neck and Collarbone Area: Start by placing your fingers at the base of your neck and make gentle, slow circular motions, moving towards the collarbone. Repeat this motion several times to stimulate lymphatic drainage in this region.
- Arm Massage: For the arms, use gentle, rhythmic motions. Starting from the hand, massage in the direction of the armpit, where the lymph nodes are located. Use a soft touch and repeat the motion several times on each arm.
- Leg Massage: Similar to the arm massage, work your way from the feet towards the inguinal lymph nodes located in the groin area. Use light strokes, moving upwards in a rhythmic manner. Repeat the motion several times on each leg.
- Abdominal Massage: Place your hands below your ribcage and gently massage in a clockwise circular motion. This helps stimulate lymphatic flow in the abdominal region. Be mindful of any surgical incisions and avoid applying pressure directly to those areas.
- Relaxation and Hydration: After completing the massage, take a few moments to relax and continue deep breathing. It’s essential to hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water to support lymphatic function.
